Over the years I started to disown the word "get" because I was only seeing it relationally as power struggles between people. Today, I am celebrating getting to be me as well as reclaiming the word "get" for myself.

My conscious distaste for the word “get” began just out of art school when marketing people would come in to the compelling art that was created for a brand or advertisement and put flashy red arrow type things all over it to try to get people to do something.

As an entrepreneur, I’ve noticed lots of people (including myself on occasion) sometimes are in a space of just trying to “get” something like results, money, clients, fame, attention … you name it.

In all types of relationships, I’ve seen and experienced that people often forget they are creative, resourceful and whole, so they resort to getting needs met through codependence.

Whether it be in the business world or in other relationships, when people are in the space of “What can I get?”, the relationship becomes transactional and people become things. When people become things, an underlying energy of lack is often present, and no matter how much a person “gets”, it’s never enough.

So do you understand why I’ve developed a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to the word “get” and all the energy underneath it? In relationship, it feels like a power struggle, and because people aren’t actually things, it plays out energetically as a person trying to fight for space or take it from another.

“Get” also has various flavors such as demand and manipulation. Like how a lot of sales, advertising, and marketing is designed around pain points being pushed to get an emotional reaction going that will lead to buying.

The underlying energy of “get” can even express as trying to save, fix, or bully someone (again, as if human beings are things). Also wanting something for someone so badly that little hints of getting them to do things are dropped in here and there.

In the energy of “get” from another person, it is forgotten how to share from a truly balanced, peaceful, and loving place. However, remembering that there’s another way is the reason this is all worth talking about.

In a session I was receiving recently, something really wonderful happened in my brain and being. As I let go of some old stories about disappointment that had rotted into blame and victim energies, I created space to turn inward and reclaimed the word “get” for MYSELF!

It was amazing when I realized that if I validate and house my own personal power within, there’s nothing I need to get from another person (including getting them to do what I think they should!). When I own my power to fuel my channel, there’s also no need to give it to others because I know that they also have their own. Each of us is more than capable.

It felt so freeing to say no more fighting to exist in the world. No more giving away my power. No more manipulating to ease my brain out of fear and lack. Instead, I say Yes to a place of pure, centered intention. Yes to my knowing that I am creative, resourceful and whole. Yes to powering myself and my purpose. From that place, I open up to sparks flying in relationship with others for the highest good.

As I called my power back to me, a few phrases came to me that sealed my reclamation of the word GET for myself:
  • I get to be me!
  • I get to choose what I do with my energy.
  • I get to be full of Divine Love.
  • I get to speak my truth.
Want to try it for yourself?
  • Imagine a golden magnet in your solar plexus that calls your power back.
  • Hold your hands on your solar plexus saying those phrases in your voice.
  • Release your hands, allow your power to flow within AND SHINE!

Wild Blessings,
